Brian ArtArt Director
Brian is the senior member of the Ferguson art department, having joined the agency in 1986. He does it all, from logos and identity work to print media to e-blasts and other digital designs. Brian is driven to help clients promote their products and services in a way that gives them a clear advantage over their competition. He has a reputation for making an art form out of the basics — with elegant pencil drawings and beautifully designed layouts. Brian is a craftsman away from the office, too, as a carpenter and all-round home improver. His secret to happiness? “A routine of good work, a square meal and hearing my kids’ laughter at the end of the day.”
Andrea AtwoodArt Director
Andrea has always believed that good design is less about “making things pretty” than about solving problems, and she’s driven to produce work that solves problems for her clients…beautifully, of course. She loves the collaborative process of working alongside her teammates to craft final products that exceed expectations, and 10+ years in the industry have proven she is more than capable of doing just that. Andrea’s evenings and weekends are spent watching documentaries (shout out to Ken Burns), making music, caring for her collection of more than 40 houseplants (is that considered gardening?) and reading fiction.
Marc BackofenMedia Director
Marc has worked in media planning and buying for more than 20 years, both independently and with various agencies. A graduate of Ball State University, he sees his work as an avenue to helping clients achieve their advertising goals. His media experience spans a wide range of industries including retail, healthcare, entertainment, not-for-profit, financial, education, quick service restaurants and B2B. In his off hours, Marc is most likely to be found hitting the golf course or in the stands, cheering on his two boys in travel sports.
Kristen BaymanArt Director
Kristen is one of the newest member of the team at Ferguson, but she’s certainly no stranger to the world of creative design and art direction. Indeed, she brings with her 13-plus years of advertising and marketing experience to FAI, and she knows her way around any design program and can knock the socks off of anyone who dares her otherwise. Luckily for her, she resides in great company as an Indiana University alum with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree paired with a double minor in Art History and Theatre. When she isn’t busy utilizing her artistic energy creating outstanding work for clients, she can be found outside either playing 18 holes of golf or riding horses.
Lauren BertkeGraphic Designer
A graduate of the University of Saint Francis (a theme amongst the Ferg art department!), Lauren paid her dues as a design intern for two summers before joining the crew full time. As a designer, she is inspired by the beauty that lies within every detail. To Lauren, design is more than just a means of communication; it is a work of art in itself. When she punches out, you’ll catch her reading poetry, practicing yoga, browsing the record store for new vinyl or finding new adventures within Fort Wayne.
Trained in accounting and human resources, Sherry has spent much of her career with advertising agencies, a graduate of Indiana State University she has a unique understanding of what it takes to keep everything well oiled and running smoothly. She joined the Ferguson team in 2011, and by now has everyone pretty much whipped into shape. We may affectionately refer to her as the “honey Badger”, but really, sherry’s a softie who spends her free time doing volunteer work that benefits children.
Chris CarderUX Director
Chris has been combining his love of design, computers and digital imagery since he received his first 8-bit system in 1980. A graduate of the University of Saint Francis, Chris designs and builds front-end interfaces for a variety of digital products, including software, websites and mobile applications. For Chris, it’s about working to make interactive systems usable through solid planning, good content strategy and a thorough understanding of User Experience and User Interface (UI/UX) principals. A pop culture enthusiast, Chris also collects vintage advertising, old vending machines and classic movie posters
Andi ChinSenior Account Executive
Andi found her sweet spot in account management after launching a successful career in video production. A workhorse in the best possible sense, she thrives on fostering deep relationships with clients, working with them to identify just the right tactic to meet their needs and inspiring a creative team from concept to delivery. After more than 10 years of serving clients in a wide range of industries, her strategic insight and organizational abilities keep them coming back again and again. When she finally peels away from her desk, Andi is likely to be found jamming to live music, dancing the night away or taking down the boys in poker.
Lauren CoxenAccount Coordinator
With a BA of Science in Journalism-Advertising from West Virginia University to her name, Lauren builds on her three years of advertising experience as an account coordinator. She thinks of herself as the client’s advocate within the agency, ensuring the lines of communication are always open and projects run smoothly and on time. Lauren lives up to her Italian heritage by spending an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen. If she’s not slaving over a hot stove, you can catch her riding her bicycle, working with non-profit organizations or indulging her obsession with Harry Potter.
Matt DeckSenior Copywriter
Classifying himself as “hopelessly competitive,” Matt views every new project as a challenge to discover and diffuse an audience’s barriers to action in an honest, engaging way. He’s been in the ad game since 1987; after earning a BFA in Graphic Design from Purdue University, he spent 16 years as a Designer and Art Director before stumbling into copywriting and unearthing his hidden talent for the art. He’s been crafting memorable copy ever since. In his non-writing hours, Matt relishes spending time with his wife and two sons or reading (mostly fiction and WW2 history). Fun factoid: he’s also an accomplished military model builder.
Bert EhrmannWeb Designer & Programmer
Bert Ehrmann joined Ferguson Advertising in 2011, bringing a breadth of experience from other agencies and marketing departments to the Ferguson digital team. He is a web designer and programmer and has been building websites and designing digital marketing materials for local and national clients since the late 1990s. Bert’s specialties include adaptive web design and the customization of content management systems. A pop-culture junkie, Bert has also written a bi-weekly column for the Fort Wayne Reader for the past nine years.
Todd EigenschinkIS Director
Todd earned a BS in Computer Science from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and soon thereafter started Fort Wayne’s second-ever ISP (that’s Internet Service Provider, for you non-geeks) in 1995. He’s been in the Internet business ever since, doing everything from Ethernet cables and servers to operating systems and web applications. When he’s not ingeniously plumbing together systems that aren’t supposed to talk to each other, he moonlights as an endurance athlete – running marathons, completing Ride Across Indiana’s one-day 160-mile bike ride and several 70.3-mile “half ironman” triathlons. In the fall of 2017, he rocked his first full Ironman, finishing in just over 11.5 hours and donating his medal to Medals of Honor. He says he’ll do it again…when his wife gives him permission.
Kevin ErbDirector of Public Relations and Social Media / Account Manager
A former editor and journalist, Kevin specializes in helping clients connect with their distinct audiences through a strategic mix of media outlets, including social media channels. He has a decade of experience in driving effective corporate communications, public relations and social media efforts for a wide range of companies — and most importantly, getting measurable results. Ferguson clients rely on Kevin to analyze a strategic cross-section of media channels and tools and put his unique perspective to work for them. A native of Fort Wayne, Kevin is a graduate of Ball State University and is a passionate community supporter and volunteer. He’s also a serious runner who is taking it all a bit far (literally), with two marathons under his belt and more to come.
John FergusonPresident / Principal
A graduate of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, John has more than 15 years of agency management experience as well as 8 years in various marketing roles with a Fortune 500 company. He has led brand development, marketing strategy and communications planning and execution for clients ranging from start-ups to global corporations. In 2002 he became co-owner of Ferguson Advertising and in 2005 was named president. Ferguson clients count on John for big-picture thinking and day-to-day oversight to help them reach their marketing and advertising goals. And of course, golf is frequently involved. Away from the office, John enjoys hitting the slopes and the links, but with three kids, he’s most often in the bleachers, riding the pine in the parents’ section.
In 1972, a young advertising executive named Richard Ferguson, who had been at an agency in New York City, came to Fort Wayne to join Bonsib Advertising, one of the largest agencies in the state at the time. After three years as president of Bonsib, Ferguson made the decision to start his own shop, and Ferguson Advertising was born. Today, Rich still manages a few accounts, but mostly he just hangs out and makes sure we don’t screw anything up. After all, his family name is still on the door.

David HerringWeb & Mobile Developer
A web developer since his high school days, David initially sought to broaden his horizons with a jack-of-all-trades role. However, he wasn’t far into his career when his focus shifted back to his first love: programming. Since then, he’s played an integral role in a host of web and mobile projects. David earned a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Indiana Wesleyan University, where he also minored in music, another long-time passion. On evenings and weekends, you can find him taking in a movie, playing video games or rocking out on keyboards with his band Three Cities.
Ryan HoltVP of Digital Services
A 1996 graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and a double minor in business and English, Ryan is a seasoned marketing executive with an impressive 17-year track record in advertising, marketing communications and digital marketing. He has worked with an extensive roster of regional and national clients across a broad cross-section of industries including health care, orthopedics and medical devices, advanced manufacturing, automotive, RV, trucking/transportation and retail. Outside the office, Ryan cheers on his family and community, in part by coaching youth baseball, softball and soccer.
Ric JohnsonWeb & Mobile Director
Ric started programming on TRS-80 – one of the earliest mass-produced personal computers – at a Radio Shack in New Haven, Indiana. More than 35 years later, he’s still doing what he loves most: making computers do cool and pretty things. From mobile apps to dynamic websites, Ric embraces the latest technologies and likes to problem-solve for his clients. Experienced in creating and streamlining complex user interfaces and data systems, Ric prides himself on the ability to explain technology using analogies that even a llama could understand. In his spare time, Ric writes embedded software and, in his words, “fixes things.”

Bob graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Saint Francis with a BA in Fine and Commercial Art. Over his 26 years of advertising experience, he has worked closely with clients of all sizes and in virtually every industry, from consumer goods, to financial and professional services, to universities, foundations and charitable organizations and many more. Bob’s expertise is in creating visual answers to clients’ communication challenges, and he has earned a wide reputation for out-of-the-box thinking and the ability to deliver national-quality execution, day in and day out. Bob’s a perfectionist, setting the highest standards for the Ferguson creative department and leading by example. Outside the office, Bob continues to be project-driven, restoring old cars, building furniture and collecting cool stuff from out-of-the way places across the country.

A self-proclaimed nerd, Jenni really shines when it comes to numbers and data. Applying her analytic mind to SEO and digital ad strategy, she’s at her best helping companies first to recognize their potential in the digital world – and then reach it. She’s been honing her digital marketing skills as a director and consultant since 2007, building on prior experience in communications. Away from the agency, Jenni can be found traveling, shuffling kids to various activities or indulging in a Netflix marathon.

Rob MaldeneyDirector of Video Productions
A graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and an Illustration minor. Rob started as a graphic designer and art director on the print side of the agency world. As the digital side emerged, he was drawn to all of the new possibilities, which led to his transition more than 15 years ago to digital design, video, 3D animation and web development. Today, he leads our thriving video department and lends his unique combination of digital design chops and video shooting and editing. And the best part? Rob is a pro at explaining video production to our clients (and the rest of us) so we are all on the same page (just don’t bother him during a white balance.) Rob loves bourbon and may (or may not) have a still in his garage.
Kyle MartinAccount Executive / VP Account Service
A graduate of Franklin College with degrees in marketing and computer information systems, Kyle spent more than five years in market research before moving to the agency side. Over the past 10 years, he has provided account management and marketing strategy for businesses in the financial services, entertainment, marine, recreation, aircraft and healthcare industries. Kyle’s specialty is in collaborating with clients on strategies that push the boundaries of traditional methods to engage their audiences in innovative and meaningful ways. Within the agency, he continually challenges the Ferguson team to develop new ways of leveraging emerging media and technologies on behalf of our clients. Always the adventurer, Kyle is the agency’s guide for great beer, gourmet food and off-the-wall YouTube videos.

Jason McFarlandArt Director
Jason is a graduate of Ball State where he studied graphic design and marketing before embarking on a career that led him to Illinois and Alabama before coming to Riley + Company in Fort Wayne. He has 15 years of experience on both the agency and corporate sides and possesses a unique understanding of what makes each tick. At Ferguson, Jason is a key contributor at every stage of the creative process, from concept development through final execution. He has a particular talent for combining type and images to deliver impactful messages that resonate with a client’s target audience. Jason is known to put in long hours, but once he adjourns to his favorite watering hole, you don’t want to come between him and the dart board.
Pete SchenkelApplication Designer Programmer
Influenced by his dad, Pete grew up around a lot of mechanical and electronic projects. He still loves working with his hands and is our resident gearhead. His first computer experience goes back to using a Tandy 1000 and programming in BASIC. Pete went to ITT Technical Institute and graduated with a degree in Software Applications and Programming, and he wields drum sticks or wrenches when he’s not at a keyboard. Pete has been making things “just work” since 2003.
Jill ShieAccounting Associate
Jill has 10 years experience in bookkeeping. While taking a few courses at Ivy tech and obtaining her license in esthetics, she owned her own business for 4 years.
Jill’s husband owns his own business and she helps out with the books. She is a professional bartender and loves animals. When she is not working she enjoys spending time with her 2 kids and husband.
Vicki ShovekAccount Executive
Vicki knows marketing from the inside out. After college, she quickly moved from intern to marketing manager at a large Fort Wayne manufacturer, leading all outbound marketing efforts through websites, print materials, advertising, public relations and tradeshow participation. Her next move was to the agency side, where she identified and led marketing campaigns for clients. As an account exec, Vicki pursues a deep understanding of each client’s brand, business and goals, coming alongside them to develop strategy that drives them to the next level of success. Modestly labeling herself an “above average” ping pong player, Vicki also loves a good game of poker, kickball, volleyball…let’s face it, really anything that lets her unleash her competitive side.

Greg is a graduate of the University of Saint Francis with a BA in fine and commercial art. He has more than 15 years of experience designing everything from ads, posters and brochures to 3-D displays to websites. Greg enjoys problem solving, and he sees each project as a unique puzzle that is only complete when the client’s message has been communicated as clearly and effectively as possible. His thoughtful approach sets him apart from run-of-the-mill designers (he actually reads the copy!) and that results in truly insightful creative. A lover of the outdoors, Greg enjoys canoeing, hiking and baseball — and sharing those moments with his young daughter and son.

Liz StubyAccount Coordinator
With over five years of experience in director and manager positions, plus a BA of Science in Merchandising-Marketing from Ball State University, Liz supports the Ferguson team as an account coordinator. Describing herself as an “avid multi-tasker,” she is most satisfied with her day when she leaves the office knowing she has exceeded client expectations as she oversees their projects. Liz takes a hands-on approach outside the office, spending her free time completing DIY-projects. When she’s not crafting, Liz can be found riding her bike, vacationing in northern Michigan or hanging out with her husband and their favorite canine, Ruby.
Shelly WilliamsDigital Project Coordinator
Armed with a B.S. in Business Administration, Shelly developed a fondness for data and details over a 14-year tenure in ecommerce, marketing and advertising. A few years ago, she switched gears to focus on project management – and the rest, as they say, is history. When she’s not cracking the whip on the web development team, she enjoys biking. A lot of biking. We’re talking an “I name my bikes” kind of obsession. She also gets a thrill from genealogy, books, vinyl albums and a Ferguson favorite: coffee.
Jaala WrightWriter / Digital Content Specialist
Jaala is as surprised as anyone that a BA in music can lead to a career in advertising, but for her, it seems to work. After graduating from Indiana Wesleyan University, she moved into the home medical equipment field where she developed skills in writing, billing and project management. When she joined the Ferguson Advertising team in 2012, she found her sweet spot in its unique blend of critical thinking, creativity and practical application. She loves to learn and strives to thoughtfully invest herself in each project that comes her way. When quitting time rolls around, Jaala can usually be found at a church Bible study or music rehearsal singing, playing piano or French horn (guitar is next!), and she’s recently discovered a love for good old-fashioned bike rides.
Nancy WrightCEO / PRINCIPAL
With a degree in graphic design from Indiana University, Nancy has been with Ferguson Advertising almost as long as there has been a Ferguson Advertising, joining as an art director in 1976 and advancing to vice president by 1982 and creative director in 1985. In 2001, she was named agency president and in 2005, CEO. Nancy spends much of her time in direct day-to-day contact with Ferguson accounts to make sure the line of communication between the clients and the creative department is clear, concise and on track. Nancy has been awarded the American Advertising Foundation Silver Medal in recognition of contributions to advertising and the furthering of the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. Nancy’s been here and done it all — and yes, she’s still hungry for more.
